Summer 2012 -
Anne, Noirín and Noli with artist Bettina Schroeder at Coombe Farm Studios in Devon, England.
Art Workshops -
The Artists' Circle Bray hosts three workshops annually. Those attending the workshops have the opportunity to work alongside a professional artist. The guest artist generally gives a demonstration in his/her preferred medium and will give individual help and critique to those who request it. All students are encouraged to work with a medium of their choice.
Our workshops run for two days commencing at 10am and finishing at 4pm. Artists bring their own lunch, but tea/coffee and snacks are freely available to all.
To date the following workshops have taken place:
Still Life in Oils by Fergal Flanagan (2011) - emphasis on colour mixing and tonal values. Fergal also works with gouache.
Portrait Painting by Conall McCabe (2011) - emphasis on skin tone and using a grid reference for a more exact likeness of subject.
Watercolour / Oils by Brigid O'Brien (2012) - emphasis on allowing the water do the work and encouraging everyone to 'loosen up'!
Watercolour / Oils by Patricia Aherne O'Farrell and demonstration in oils by her daughter Róisín O'Farrell (2012) - Patricia gave a PowerPoint presentation on how a painting evolves from fast 5 minute sketches with an emphasis on light against dark. She gave private critiques and useful hints. Róisín's demonstration was most enjoyable, again with a great emphasis on tonal values and the use of thick paint.
Our next workshop will be held towards the end of October 2012 so watch this space……
